UMBRIA

Umbria is called the green heart of Italy. It is just in the middle of the country and it is a region characterized by small borughs, wild nature and historic attractions. it is a small region, with only 815.000 citizens. The biggest cities are Perugia and Terni. The most important and famous town are Assisi, Orvieto, Todi, Gubbio and Spoleto.

-Main monuments and museums: Duomo di Orvieto, Fontana Maggiore (Perugia), Palazzo dei Consoli (Gubbio) Basilica di San Francesco (Assisi), Rocca Albornoziana (Spoleto), Piazza del popolo (Todi). Umbrian paintings gallery (Perugia), San Benedetto church (Norcia), S.Rita Sanctuary (Cascia)

-Main nature attractions: Marmore falls (Terni), Clitunno's springs (Trevi-Foligno), Castelluccio di Norcia (Norcia), Trasimeno lake (near Perugia), Natural river park of Tevere (between Todi and Orvieto), The prehistoric wood of Dunarobba (near Terni), Monte Cucco park (near Gubbio), National park of Sibillini Mountains (near Cascia and Norcia).

-Foods: If you are in Umbria do not miss the typical restaurants (trattorie and osterie) where some delicious traditional meals are served. Umbrian dishes: Umbrichelli (light pasta with prepared with flour and water) with black truffle, Pork sausages and salami and mazzafegati (a special type of pork sausages with liver), Beans soup, Lentils, Game meat (wild boar, hare, deer, rabbit). Do not miss also the great wines (some representative labels, Cardeto Orvieto classico, Decugnano de Barbi, Castello della Sala and Cervaro Antinori, Palazzone, Lungarotti, Sagrantino di Montefalco, Monrubio...) 

-Airports and main roads: the biggest airport is Sant'Egidio (15 km far from Perugia - http://www.airport.umbria.it/). TUSCANY

Tuscany (Toscana) is a world-famous region of Italy. It is considered the renaissance cradle. It is one of the most representative region of the whole country and it is well known for its beautiful cities like Florence, Siena, Pisa and other important towns. It is one of the biggest region of central Italy too, infact it has more than 3.500.000 citizens. However the real identity of Tuscany is revelead discovering its several interesting borughs like San Gimignano, Pienza, Montalcino, Cortona, Saturnia, Arezzo,Pitigliano. All these towns are located in different areas of the region: maremma, chianti, valdichiana, val d'orcia, crete senesi.
 
-Main monuments and museums: Ponte vecchio, Duomo, Piazza della Signoria and Uffizi gallery (Florence), Piazza del campo, duomo and Torre del mangia (Siena), San Galgano and S.Antimo abbeis (maremma), the towers of San Gimignano, the walls of Monteriggioni, Piazza dei miracoli and the leading tower in Pisa
 
-Main nature attractions: Saturnia's natural spa, San Casciano de bagni springs, the Maremma natural park, the Casentino and Amiata mountain parks, the Alpi Apuane paths (near Lucca), the wonderful isalnds in the Livorno district (Isola d'Elba, isola Capraia...)
 
-Foods: in Tuscany you can enjoy a delicious foods based on a typical steak (called fiorentina) or a famous Ribollita soup, again you can enjoy the typical wild boar alla maremmana, the Pienza's sheep cheese or the pici (special kind of pasta). Nevertheless do not forget to taste the sweet cake of Siena (panforte and ricciarelli) beside the great world-famous wine such as Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, Morellino di Scansano, Montepulciano red-wine and many others.
 
-Airports and main roads: the A1 highway (leading you in Florence and Pisa) the inner main street Cassia and the Aurelia motorway (along the coast). Main airports: Galileo Galilei airport in Pisa and the Florence airport.

LATIUM

Latium (Lazio) is the region with Rome and it is strongly influenced by this presence. Rome is a unique city, with its 2.600.000 citizens is the biggest city of the region. It boasts a great artistic patrimony and superb monuments like Colosseum, Piazza di Spagna, Fontana di Trevi and the Vatican city (the Pope seat) with the marevellous San Pietro cathedral and vatican museums.
Other important cities: Latina, Viterbo, Rieti, Frosinone.
 
-Main monuments and museums: Colosseum, Trevi fountain, San Pietro cathedral, Roman foro, Altare della Patria, Caracalla's therm (Rome), Villa Adriana, Villa d'este (Tivoli near Rome), Palazzo Farnese (Caprarola in Viterbo district) Roman ruins (Ostia), Etruscan archeological sites (Tarquinia and Vulci), Villa Lante (Viterbo), Civita di Bagnoregio, Bomarzo monsters'park
 
-Main nature attractions: Terminillo mountain (near Rieti), the Laurenziana gardens (near Rome), the Bullicame natural spa (Viterbo) Tivoli natural therms, Villa Torlonia park, The national park of Circeo (south of Rome), Bracciano and Bolsena lakes.
 
-Foods: in the north-area of the region there are several meals to be suggested, the roasted-pork or wonderful pasta with porcini mushrooms, cereal soups and typical cakes with nuts. In the area of Bolsena lake a coregone-fish is a must or the local Sbroscia (a typical fish-lake soup). About the wine, the most famous in this area is the Est Est Est of Montefiascone. 
 
-Airports and main roads: the A1 highway (linking Rome to Naples, florence and Milano) the old roman roads (Appia antica, Salaria, Cassia, Flaminia and Aurelia). Main airports Rome-Leonardo da Vinci (Fiumicino) and Ciampino.
